Meglumine

Meglumine (N-methyl-D-glucamine) is a sugar alcohol used in pharmaceuticals as a solubilizing agent, pH adjuster, and counter-ion to improve the solubility and absorption of certain active drug ingredients (APIs) like anti-inflammatory drugs or contrast agents. It's found in injections (e.g., gadopentetate dimeglumine) and tablets, and while often an inactive excipient, its derivatives like flunixin meglumine are potent NSAIDs for animals, and meglumine antimoniate treats parasitic infections like leishmaniasis.
